When I moved to Komoro City, the view from my studio window of this field, tended daily by a local farmer, reminded me of the traditional paintings of local landscapes that I often saw in art museums and public buildings in and around Nagano. 
I decided to document the view over the course of a year, starting from March 2022 until March 2023. Each day that I photographed the field I would also photograph the background mountains from a nearby park, and then digitally combine the images using Photoshop in order to create a more 'classic' Komoro scene. 
By the end of the year I had accumulated over 60 montages, which I edited down to 24 (roughly 2 per month). The final selection have been shot onto and presented as analogue slide film, not only in keeping with the traditional, antiquated nature of the subject, but also as a tribute to the roots of Japanese camera technology.
小諸にある現在の家に引っ越したとき、アトリエの窓から、ひとりの男性が毎日手入れをしている畑が見えることに気づきました。その景色は、長野の美術館や学校などのさまざまな施設でよく見かける伝統的な地元の風景画を連想させました。 
そこで私は2022年3月から2023年3月までの1年間、この景色を記録しようと決め、畑を撮影した同じ日に近くの公園から背景の山々も撮影しました。そしてそれらの画像を合成し、より「古典的な」小諸の風景をつくり出したのです。 
1年間で制作した60枚以上のモンタージュの中から、ここに展示している24枚のラインナップを選定し、最終的にアナログのスライドフィルムとして発表することにしました。そこには、被写体の伝統的で古風な性質に沿ったものという意味の他に、日本のカメラ技術のルーツへのオマージュという意味も込められています。

Paying homage to the tradition of local landscape paintings found throughout Nagano Prefecture, this video, presented as a still image in a frame, gradually cycles through 30 photographs to slowly reveal the changing seasons of Komoro City lying at the foot of Mount Asama.
長野県各地に伝わる風景画にオマージュを捧げたこの映像は、フレームに収められた静止画を表現した。30枚の写真をゆっくりとループさせながら、浅間山麓の小諸市の四季の移り変わりをゆっくりと浮かび上がらせていく。
